HIMS Announces Industry's first Voice Recognition DAISY Player

HIMS is pleased to announce Interactive Voice Recognition (IVR) capability for the BookSense XT, the industry's first voice-response DAISY player. This new IVR feature was announced at the 2011 National Federation of the Blind Convention on July 5th, 2011, in Orlando, FL.

This Voice Recognition Feature is compatible with only the BookSense XT. A free firmware update is scheduled to be available online at www.hims-inc.com in late July.

To promote BookSense and the new Voice Recognition feature, we are offering a 10% customer discount on all BookSense models for orders received through October 31st, 2011.

The BookSense Family are compact and lightweight portable DAISY players. This multi-function player is compatible with a wide range of audio formats including DAISY and MP3. It has a built-in text-to-speech engine which enables a wide range of electronic documents to be easily accessible.

While the BookSense and BookSense XT have no screen, the BookSense DS has an OLED screen. Enjoy newspapers, your favorite novels, even your music collection while checking the status of playback or your place in a menu or file list on the OLED screen.

The BookSense family offers several features to make your life more convenient. You can record a memo with just the press of a button and adjust microphone sensitivity to accommodate either quick recording of daily activities or a special concert in a large hall. Listen to your favorite music and books on the go. With access to time and alarm even when the unit is off, there's no need to buy another digital clock!

Features of the BookSense Family:

Small, Light and Easy to Carry: Compact and lightweight providing portable use, making it easy to carry wherever you go!

Document Reader: Reads text and Braille files: TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, HTML/XML, SML, BRL, BRF, Bookshare Braille files.

Media Playback: Plays several types of audio files; including: MP3, MP4, WAV, WMA, WMV, OGG, ASF, FLAC, 3GP, Audible audio (.aa, .aax).

DAISY Content Playback: DAISY is a digital book format which includes text, audio, or both. It contains special markup for navigating chapters, sections, paragraphs, pages, and percent of content. The BookSense Family can instantly move to a certain location using this markup, allowing you to navigate books quickly and efficiently.

The BookSense Family supports all types of DAISY formats: DAISY 2.0/2.02, ANSI/NISO Z39.86 (DAISY 3.0), NIMAS1.1, NLS, R F B & D, Bookshare.org, Serotec (SAMNet).

Convenient Reading Features: Includes several types of moving features, such as reading speed control, bookmark and voice memo, etc.

Recording: Provides a high quality internal microphone to record anything from anywhere in either MP3 or WAV format. Also features a 3.5mm microphone socket enabling you to use an external microphone, external audio sources via line-in, and even records from the FM radio. (FM radio is only on the BookSense XT and DS models, and the radio has the ability to add up to 6 channel presets)

Easy to Use: Provides a user-friendly and consistent user interface, which makes learning to use your BookSense model very easy!

Bluetooth (BookSense XT only): Allows you to use a stereo Bluetooth headset, which can also be used to transfer data files from PC via Bluetooth to the BookSense XT using FTP service.

Time and Date: Check the time and date easily with a dedicated button. (With the BookSense and BookSense XT, this works even when the player is turned off.)

Detachable and Rechargeable Battery (BookSense and BookSense XT models only): The detachable and rechargeable battery provides up to 12 hours of continuous use.

Optional Carrying Case (BookSense and BookSense XT models only): Order a carrying case separately to safely and fashionably protect your BookSense or BookSense XT. The optional carrying case allows all functions to be used without taking the unit out of the case and can attach to your pocket or belt.

Several Memory Types (BookSense XT and DS models only) Supports high-capacity SD cards up to 32 GB, USB flash drives, USB CD-ROM drives and contains 4 GB internal memory.
