The use of cell phones is one of the challenges facing the vision-impaired. Cell phones are designed primarily on visual concepts, without considering the needs of the blind or partially sighted. Mobile Speak is a screen reader solution for mobile phones that allows access to most of the functionality of the device.

Mobile Speak allows access to all of the phone's applications, including third-party applications that are not part of the standard set of software supplied with the phone. Mobile Speak is a high-quality software solution with many additional features. It also includes bundled software, such as an accessible calculator, accessible sound recorder, a game, MP3 player, and FExplorer, a file-system browser.

When Mobile Speak is installed on a compatible cell phone, it converts text into crisp, easy to understand speech using the globally acclaimed Eloquence text-to-speech engine. The speech is heard through the phone’s internal speaker or Bluetooth headphones. Instead of spending thousands of dollars for proprietary notetakers or several mobile devices, each performing a separate task, blind people can do exactly what their sighted counterparts have been doing for some time: Buy and carry one single, sleek device to handle multiple communications and data management functions.

Mobile Speak is available for self-installation, where the user can install the software via an infrared or Bluetooth connection from the computer to the cell phone. It can also be professionally installed for an additional price.

Mobile Speak works with the Braille keyboard that comes included with the EasyLink Accessible PDA. This allows for additional Braille input capability within Mobile Speak.
