Also, the following information is provided by HumanWare to better help in your use of the Victor Reader Stream: 1) Stream Companion CD and user guide available on the HumanWare website. We are pleased to announce that the Stream Companion software is ready. It may be downloaded from the following link: Victor Reader Stream Companion Software The Stream Companion User Guide is also available in the documentation list on the Stream Page at the following link: Victor Reader Stream Companion User Guide This Companion software is optional software that runs on Windows XP and Vista. It provides two functionalities: 1. Book Transfer Pane: The Book Transfer pane allows you to specify where you store your DAISY or NISO Talking Books on your PC. The Stream Companion will display all the book titles found in this path and all subfolders in a simple list view. Simply arrow up and down this list and press the space bar to select the book or books you wish to transfer to the Stream. Select the Transfer button and all the book files for the selected titles will be transferred to individual folders within the $VRDTB folder of your Stream. You can use the Stream Companion to transfer directly to the Stream if it is connected or to the Stream SD card in your card reader. There is a drop-down to specify the drive letter where your Stream or SD card is located. The Book pane also lists the books currently in your Talking Books folder on the SD card and lets you delete any of these if you wish. The Stream Companion also has windows to tell you the storage space on the SD card before and after you transfer or delete the books. There is a HELP button to display the User Guide. 2. Audio Note Conversion: The second reason you may wish to install the Stream Companion is to convert your audio notes. The Companion has a Notes pane that let's you select one or more of your Audio Notes and convert the 3GP files on the Stream's SD card to standard wav files on a specified location on your PC. This is useful if you wish to archive or edit your recordings on the PC. To install the Stream Companion, follow these steps: - Download the zip file from the Stream page using the link above. A demonstration of the installation and use of the program can be found in Section 10 of the new Stream Audio Tutorial which is also available on the Stream Page. 2) Audio Tutorial for Stream Victor Reader Stream Audio Tutorial The tutorial provides multiple MP3 files that describe the Stream in detail and its many functionalities. Topics include: - Player overview You may even wish to copy the tutorial files to a folder in your $VROtherBooks folder of your SD card so you can listen to the tutorial on the Stream. To do this: - Download the zip file that contains the audio tutorial files. Additional Note on Transferring Files When Stream Is Connected to the Computer: Many of you are aware that the USB data transfer speed is quite slow when the Stream is connected to the PC with the USB cable. HumanWare has recently made changes that improve this. We expect the improvement will be significant - about 2 or 3 times faster than on the present software version 1.1.15. This improved transfer will be made available in the next software release expected early in 2008. 3) Bose Headphone Company The following information has been provided to HumanWare from the Bose headphone company. We've tested the Bose QC3 headphones with the VictorReader Stream player. Here is some information that may be helpful to VictorReader Stream users: The "hiss" heard while using the products together is caused by an interaction between the design of the player and new technology in the QC3. This doesn't occur with other Bose headphones, including the QC2. Owners can try the following: Connect the QC3 headphones to the VictorReader Stream player using the QC3's dual-plug airline adapter. To use the adapter, fold down the second plug and insert the fixed plug into the output jack of the player. Then plug the QC3 audio connecting cable into the narrow end of the adapter. The sound level will be reduced. To compensate, increase the volume on the player. If the options we've offered do not resolve the issue to satisfaction, owners can contact Bose in the United States at 800-999-2673; or contact us through the Bose website at www.bose.com.R F B & D is now selling a User Authorization Key (UAK) for the Victor Reader Stream at a cost of $20. The UAK must be purchased directly from R F B & D Member Services by calling 1-800-221-4792. After connecting it, power it back on and you will hear the message, "player connected". Alternatively, if you have an SD card reader, you may put the SD card of your Stream into the card reader. 6. Wait for Windows to recognize your Stream's SD card. It will appear as a drive letter on your computer. 7. Open this drive letter using Windows Explorer or the My Computer program. 8. Extract (unzip) all the 10 files from the zip file on your computer into the root of this SD card drive. Be sure to save the files in the root not in any of the $VR folders. 9. Close the SD card in Windows by exiting Windows Explorer or My Computer. 10. Use the Safely Remove Hardware option in the Windows System Tray to tell Windows you want to disconnect the Stream or release the drive that contains your SD card. 11. Power off the Stream and disconnect it from the computer or, if you used a card reader, insert the SD card into the Stream. 12. Power on the Stream. It will then prompt you for your 4 digit R F B & D PIN number. Enter the number followed by the pound key. The Stream will announce that the user key has been processed. Your Stream will now be authorized to play R F B & D AudioPlus books. Once your Stream is authorized, you should then delete the 10 files from the SD card and keep the zip file on your computer as a backup. You only need to authorize the Stream once even if you use multiple SD cards. Playing AudioPlus CD's from R F B & D: To play AudioPlus CD books on your Stream, you will need to copy all the files on the R F B & D CD to your Stream SD card. To do this, create a subfolder for the book title in the $VRDTB folder of the SD card and copy all the files on the CD into that subfolder. Alternatively, you may use the Stream Companion software and select the drive letter of your CD as the source of the book files. Note that if the book is on 2 CD's, you need to create a second subfolder and copy the files of the second CD to it. The Stream will treat a multi-CD book as two separate books. User Testimonials for Victor Reader Stream: Just wanted to let you know that I purchased my Victor Reader Stream the day I received your e-mail, and had it the next day. I've thoroughly enjoyed it and never leave home without it. Thanks so much. Money well spent. Mary Finally, I just want to add my thanks for developing such a great product at such an awesome price! I have never been much of a book reader and had considered purchasing a product from the competition, namely the Bookport. After I read the initial reviews on the VictorReader Stream, I was hooked on the player and knew I had to have one. I finally purchased a player in late November and wonder why I waited so long! I should also add that a co-worker purchased a player site unseen after I told him all about the player. In fact, my wife liked the player so much, she bought one too! The design of the player, including size, is outstanding! The player has such great features and is a breeze to use. I love the fact that the VR Stream is so compact in size and weighs so little. I can honestly say that the VictorReader Stream has turned me into an avid reader! Like a good paperback, I just can't seem to put the VictorReader Stream down. Outstanding job Humanware!! Looking forward to your response. Dave Tech notes: |
